Dancer Positions in Dissonance Dance Theatre

Dissonance Dance Theatre is a contemporary ballet company with a varying repertoire, that spans from folkloric to classical ballet (skewed).

Current positions are Soloists, Artists, Corp de Ballet, Apprentice, Trainee.

Soloists –  Soloists score leading roles and are the cornerstones of Dissonance Dance Theatre. Soloists are fluid in the artistic style of DDT, and posses a strong physicality within its repertoire. Most soloists have a long-tenure within the company.

First Artists perform demi-soloist roles, occasionally performing them alongside soloists.

Corp de Ballet are ensemble dancers (possessing at least one or two years within DDT),  who are working on mastering DDT’s artistic style. Corp dancers are featured in shows as ensemble dancers. Young DDT-tenured dancers began as corp de ballet, coached in DDT’s quick-paced style and rehearsal process. Corp dancers are still developing professional dance rigor and mastery of DDT’s repertoire and technique.

(Non-Paid Positions)

Apprentice – Apprentices work hard to gain a position on DDT’s artist roster. Starting as entry-level DDT dancers, most apprentices don’t have much professional stage time.  DDT attempts to provide its apprentice dancers with ample stage time, mostly depending on the dancer readiness and technical ability with DDT’s choreographic style.

Trainee – DDT’s trainee program is a one to two-year program for students ages 17 and older who are preparing for a professional dance career. Dancers are selected to participate in the Trainee Program by invitation by DDT’s Founding Director/Producing Artistic Director Shawn Short. Trainees rehearse and perform classical and contemporary works from DDT’s extensive repertoire and have the opportunity to work with world-renowned guest choreographers – all depending on casting availability.
